Sixteen-year-old Sumter girl, Sydney Daniel is excited to play in this year’s Dixie Softball World Series – hosted right here in Sumter! This will be the third time that she has participated in this series, having played in the games also here in Sumter in 2008 and 2014 in Alexandria, Louisiana. A versatile player, Sydney usually is in the catcher’s position, but can also be seen at shortstop and pitching. She got started playing softball at age six after being her dad’s “bat girl” as he coached boys’ baseball. A student at Thomas Sumter Academy, she has been inspired by her coach, BJ Reed who “introduced the love of the game, broke down the fundamentals, and made (softball) enjoyable.” What she most enjoys about softball are the relationships and bonds that are formed in the team sport. “It’s really the connection and bond we share with the team, in order to succeed.” You can catch Sydney playing in the Dixie Belles division under the coaching of Nolan Hunter, Saturday, July 29 at 2:00 pm at Patriot Park, Field 2. Come out and support our Sumter Teams! #SumtersBest
